作曲家。江苏徐州人∮南大学肄业。1937年后从事抗日宣传活动。1939年去延安，在鲁艺音乐系任教。建国后历任中央戏剧学院歌剧系主任、中国戏曲研究院音乐研究室主任及中国音乐学院副院长兼中国歌剧舞剧院院长。作有歌剧《白毛女》(与人合作)、秧歌剧《夫妻识字》，管弦乐《陕北组曲》及歌曲《南泥湾》、《咱们工人有力量》等二百余首。论著有《中国民间音乐讲话》等。
